Ever since I thought of moving to Canada, Akash Bekal has been a trusted source for all the necessary information. I felt he has a very professional approach and provides unbiased guidance about how life in Canada really is. With his vast experience in the Canadian job market, Akash helped me evaluate my profile and also understand the skillsets that I lack compared to what is currently in demand. He further helped me in preparing various action plans in terms of skill building, networking sources for landing a job, taking up essential certification courses, etc. He kept reassuring me of my academic and professional capabilities every time I doubted myself whether I would be able to succeed in Canada. Over a period of time, every conversation with Akash instilled a great amount of faith and confidence in my decision of considering Canada for a better academic and professional career. Above all, Akash always took a personal interest and mentored me like a family member.

I was introduced to Sameer through a mutual friend at a time when I was looking for job opportunities to further my career growth. Coincidentally the job I was targeting was in the organization and department he is currently working at and the insights and tips he gave were extremely helpful. While discussing the details of the job and how to go about the interview, if selected, I realized that Sameer was not only preparing me for this specific job interview but rather he was helping me to understand the preparation that was needed to crack any other interview thus vastly broadening my perspective. We had multiple sessions where we discussed interview strategies, career goals, Canadian job market, etc. all of which can get quite confusing and overwhelming as a new immigrant to Canada. Unfortunately, I didn’t get selected for an interview for the job I was initially targeting and yet again he was there with his support and advice. Ultimately, I did get an interview call for another role and had a lot of questions regarding the nature of the job and its stability. Sameer helped in easing all the concerns and yet again helped me to prepare for the interview which greatly helped me in getting my dream job. The best part about all of this is he does this without any expectation, which is rare in today’s day and age. A great human being and mentor and I am thankful to know him.

I migrated to Canada for pursuing Masters in Computer Science, and I graduated when the
COVID-19 pandemic was on peak and affected the job market badly. I was new to the Canadian
job market with tons of questions, and during this time, I tried to connect with many people on
LinkedIn. Sameer is one of the people who responded and offered me a zoom call to discuss my
questions. Sameer answered my question and shared his valuable experience during our zoom
call. He gave me directions for job hunting with some tips and tricks.
Moreover, He introduced to me a couple of new connections who share my domain (IT) and a
scheduled meeting with them. I consider him a mentor as he texted me every few days about
my progress in job hunting. He always tried to motivate me and gave me learning lessons that
finally helped me land my first job in Canada as a Software Engineer. Today, I’m working with
one of my bucket list companies, Sandvine, Waterloo, and I would like to give credits to Sameer
as he was one of the people who helped me in my job search journey.

Sameer is an awesome mentor! He helped me to be gentler with myself and not be unrealistically
demanding. He encouraged and brainstormed with me on methods of how to say no in a positive and
respectful way (to myself and others). He celebrated my achievements – no matter how small and was
always available for quick conversations. I would recommend him as a mentor to anyone who is newer
in their professions or trying to grow in their existing role. Hearing about the experiences and
approaches, successes and failures of someone who has been in the field for a long time was very
important to my perception of what should be expected from a manager. The mentorship showed me
that I need to adjust my expectations and perceptions of myself in my roles and then apply some of the
practical tools that were offered through my mentorship to be successful!

This is Mohammad Raeisi, recent graduated student in Master of Engineering Industrial Engineering from
Concordia university in Montréal (QC), who came from Iran (Tehran) to Canada in 2019. I started my
master in September of that year and finished in May 2021. After graduation I was so worried and did not
know what I had to do for getting job. Precisely I did not have enough idea about skills regarding my job
and was so anxious.
Fortunately, I met Mr. Sameer Lal in LinkedIn accidently and asked him for a meeting to take his advice.
Without any pre familiarity of me, he accepted. In first meeting he kindly apart from explaining me
everything in detail about jobs and skills, he also taught me some concepts of life. He said many
unforgettable quotes, for instance “Mohammad! There is no Failure in life. Each failure should be
considered as a lesson and new experience, and you have to be happy with those new learnings”.
After that meeting, unexpectedly he offered me follow up meetings to supervise my advancement
regarding the steps he told in the meeting. I was so happy. Since then, He kindly has been guiding me not
just only for my future path skills but also, he is teaching me moral values.
Al in all, I feel so happy that met Mr. Sameer Lal (who I call “Professor”) because like a real kind brother
he is helping without any expectation of me.
